James Teng Choon Na

FOR HIS admirable achievement in Chinese poetry that reflects the Chinese-Filipino experience in the Philippines, as well as the unbreakable ties of overseas Chinese to their roots and memory. His eight books of poetry translated into several languages apart from English show his extraordinary devotion to his craft while finding commonality in the deep but universal experience of humanity, nature, and beauty. In his capacity as literary editor to various local and foreign Chinese literary publications, his extensive membership in literary organizations, and in his fellowships and visiting lectures in the Mainland and in international literary academies, he has both distinguished himself and ably represented the Philippines and the Filipino-Chinese community.

BORN ON 28 April 1942 in Manila, Philippines. He is the Literary Editor of World News, Philippines and Vice President of Add-Mayer Development Corp., Philippines. He took his BS Architecture at Far Eastern University. His works include Melancholic Score (Yuitung Press, Philippines, 1959), Springtime in Autumn (Yuitung Press, Philippines, 1960) The Rainbow Snatcher (Yuitung Press, Philippines, 1961), The Blue Dust (Yuitung Press, Philippines, 1963), Wild Plant (Friendship Publication, People’s Republic of China, 1985), In the Light of Poetry and Photography (Photo Pictorial, Hong Kong, 1989), 100 Poems (World News/KAISA, Philippines, 2002/2003), Poems by James T.C. Na: A Collection of Originals & Translations in 9 Languages (Philippines, 2003), and The Wild Plant and others (Fujian Audio Visual Publication, China, 2006). He was an Adviser of the Qin Zihao Memorial Center in Sichuan, China in 1988; Director of the Association of Chinese Poets in Hong Kong (1988); Adviser of the Hong Kong Writers’ Club, (1989); Fellow of the World Literature Academy in United Kingdom in 1993. In 2004, he was bestowed with a Literary Award by the International Confucian Merchants Association in Guangzhou. In 2006, an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Literature, (LittD) was conferred upon him by the World Academy of Arts & Culture in the United States of America. In 2007, he received a Certificate of Merit on Poetry for World Brotherhood and Peace from the United Poets Laureate International (UPLI), U.S.A..
